The University of New Mexico (UNM) AISES student chapter works closely with the AISES national organization to promote the common mission to substantially increase the representation of American Indians and Alaskan Natives in engineering, science, and other related technology disciplines.

AISES works to promote, initiate, and provide educational services for American Indian and Alaska Native pre-college, college, and graduate students in STEM careers. AISES also supports early-, mid-, and executive-level professionals in STEM through professional development, mentoring, networking, community service, and award programs. AISES is the only professional society established by and for American Indian and Alaska Natives that specifically emphasizes lifelong learning and educational achievement by utilizing cultural aspects with STEM. Learning from the Elder Members of the organization and passing on the knowledge to future generations of students is an integral part of the AISES philosophy.

Located in the UNM School of Engineering, the AISES student chapter is committed to enhancing professional development skills and increasing career networking opportunities of its members as they participate in a number of community outreach activities.
